The three steps to boost your transition to EV

The SMMT reports* that there are nearly three quarters of a million plug-in vehicles on the road in the UK - 60% of these are registered to businesses. However, despite the urgency for organisations to achieve net zero goals and reduce motoring costs, businesses and fleets still need to drive their EV transition further and quicker.

Mobilize Power Solutions, a European leader in EV charging solutions for business drivers and fleets, recommends three steps to help accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles in fleets.

ACT NOW

You can’t grow your electric fleet if you haven’t got the right charging infrastructure in place. Putting in charging at the workplace or the depot is a major project and often there are challenges with energy supply, planning permission or even delivery of the hardware. This means that installation of charge points across your own network can take anything from 2 months through to two years. So, act now to ensure you have appropriate charging facilities to keep your electric vehicles on the move.

PLAN FOR THE FUTURE

Installing a charging infrastructure is a significant investment, so make sure your facilities are suitable for the number of vehicles you are planning to acquire in the future, upcoming vehicle and grid technology advances, as well as having the ability to optimise changing energy loads as the fleet expands.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Workplace charging projects are eligible for Government grants under the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS). This contributes towards the upfront costs of the charge points, as well as the installation. The grant is £350 per socket, with a maximum of 40 sockets or up to £14,000 and with the closing date for WCS applications on the 31st March 2024, it really is time to act now.

For those businesses who do not want the investment to impact their cashflow, finance can be available to fund the entire project. Mobilize Power Solutions works with its sister company, Mobilize Financial Services to provide financial products that make charging infrastructure ambitions more affordable.
