Volkswagen ID.2

The ID.2all concept hinted at what the latest model in the German manufacturer’s ID range would look like, but Volkswagen promises the production ID.2 will be “even better” in the flesh. The budget EV – with the likes of the Peugeot e-208 and Volkswagen Corsa in its sights – will sit on a new front-wheel-drive platform (MEB Entry) and offer a theoretical driving range of up to 280 miles.

Kia EV3

Another ‘affordable EV’ that will no doubt battle with the ID.2 is this, the latest model from Kia’s battery-electric model lineup. Like the Volkswagen, there’s new technology onboard the EV3, in this case fourth-generation battery knowhow, giving a maximum driving range of 372 miles in the long-range version. A spacious interior, generous spec level and fast charging add to the appeal.

Polestar 5

Having introduced two cars to the UK market in one hit – the 3 and 4 – Polestar is not letting up on the product offensive, with the four-door GT set to arrive next year. Building on the fundamentals of the brand’s previous models, the 5 promises a breakthrough in charging, having worked with StoreDot to cut down times to just 10 minutes for a 10-80% replenishment.

Ford Capri

Yes, it might be another electric SUV from Ford. And yes, some people don’t like the fact that an iconic name is back on a car that is far removed from what it once was. But there is still a buzz around the arrival of the Ford Capri. The coupé-SUV will be available in both RWD or AWD configurations and Ford is promising up to 390 miles from a single charge.

Renault 4

Another example of a manufacturer reviving an old model name but, in the case of Renault, it seems a more like-for-like fit. First it was the Renault 5 – which generated a lot of excitement – and now comes the Renault 4. A “modern interpretation of the original”, the 4 has battery options of 40kWh or 52kWh, with theoretical driving ranges of 186 and 250 miles respectively.

Leapmotor B10

Stellantis partnering with Chinese brand Leapmotor could be a very shrewd move by both parties, as the latter looks to make a dent in the UK market in 2025 and beyond. One of the first products to help it in its efforts is the B10 – another C-segment SUV – that will look to battle the likes of the Renault 4, Mini Aceman and its own stablemate (of sorts) the Jeep Avenger.

Maserati MC20 Folgore

When it comes to the Italian supercar manufacturer big three, Maserati is leading the way in the transition to EV. Having launched the Grecale and GranTurismo Folgore models onto the market, Maserati has confirmed a battery-powered version of the standard MC20 will not be far away. Details are scarce, but a triple-motor setup is likely, similar to what is available in the other two EVs.

Citroën Ami

Four years after the original Ami appeared, Citroën has updated the quadricycle with an exterior design that draws inspiration from the French manufacturer’s legendary 2CV. The microcar’s appearance is, according to Citroën, “both friendly and more mature, thanks to sharper lines”. Other elements remain the same, with the top speed remaining at 28mph and the maximum theoretical driving range staying at 45 miles.

BYD Sealion 7

The biggest Chinese vehicle manufacturer (the number of contenders for this crown is rising all the time) in the UK has got its eye on Tesla with the Sealion 7. Expanding the Ocean series of products (featuring Dolphin and Seal), the Sealion 7 (a European version of the confusingly similarly titled Sea Lion 07 that is sold in other markets) welcomes BYD’s latest technologies as well as an upgraded interior and HMI. A Europe-focused model, the Sealion 7 is set to offer a maximum theoretical range of 380 miles.

Alpine A390_ß

The latest electric Alpine to break cover – following the A290 and battery-powered version of the A110 – the A390_ß is a fastback that, according to the manufacturer, “anticipates the second phase of Alpine’s Dream Garage”. A more spacious option than the other couple, the A390_ß has been described as “80% ready for production”, but no technical details have been confirmed.
