Motorsport challenge for Renault Conversions

Renault F1® Team is saving money, time and manpower with a new bespoke vehicle transporter, developed to meet its unique requirements by one of over 30 Accredited Converters in the UK.

Based on a 3.5-tonne Master FWD Platform Cab, the closed transporter joins a fleet of Renault Pro+ commercial vehicles already in use by Renault Sport. The newcomer will be used to move show cars between the team’s base in Oxfordshire and over 200 events across Europe each year.

The conversion was undertaken by newly-accredited converter Advanced KFS (AKFS), working in close collaboration with the team. Show cars are based on the previous season R.S. 17 racing car, but with the engines removed and replaced by a space frame, and bodywork emblazoned with the latest team livery.

Working with AKFS enabled the Master to be fitted with unique features, including a shallow-angled ramp to accommodate the car’s low ground clearance, a shelf for the removable nose cone, and an electronic winch for loading and unloading. It can be driven on a car licence, unloaded in 15 minutes by a single person in and is better suited to the narrow roads near the team’s headquarters than the trailers and 40-tonne trucks used previously.

In turn, it’s enabled the team to be much more flexible with vehicle movements. The 844kg payload is not only enough to move a 350kg show car, but for a 700kg F1® car in full race trim. Between scheduled events, the transporter has been used to take a racing car to Valencia for last-minute testing, as well as delivering and collecting vehicles from local suppliers.

It’s simply made moving our show vehicles a whole lot easier and more cost-effective.”

The Renault F1® Team Master uses a 170hp 2.3-litre dCi 170 twin-turbo diesel, offering 37.7mpg on the combined cycle, and Business trim includes a standard alarm and immobiliser, Grip Xtend traction control for loose surfaces, Bluetooth®* and a DAB digital radio. Like all Accredited Conversions, it includes a 100,000-mile, three-year warranty^ matched by AKFS, reflecting the quality of the work.

The Master simply made moving our show vehicles a whole lot easier and more cost-effective.
