The road to 2030? Or will it still be 2035?

Welcome to the latest issue of EV Fleet World magazine, sponsored by E.ON. It’s safe to say we’ll have some interesting and challenging times ahead in the area of electrification over the coming months and years. Our newly-elected Labour government has pledged to bring back the new ICE vehicle ban deadline to 2030, which, although ambitious, is absolutely achievable with concerted effort from the government, industries and consumers.

The level of disruption this step may cause to your business plans depends heavily on how far you’ve progressed in your transition to an EV fleet. We’re likely to see a rapid increase in demand for vehicles, resulting in a bottleneck on an already strained supply chain, when it comes to battery components. It’s important for companies such as yours to secure your required number of fleet vehicles as quickly as possible to avoid any future problems.

In addition, we’re also likely to see an increase in electricity use across the grid. And we expect to see a shift across industries as they choose to not rely solely on government intervention when it comes to security of supply or the delivery of substantial renewable energy generation and instead start to take their first steps towards on-site generation and energy self-sufficiency. As more and more major operations adopt this approach to complement their vehicle electrification strategy, the reliance on non-renewable energy sources will begin to reduce and, suddenly, that net-zero future starts to feel like a very real – and attainable – reality.

It’s certainly an exciting time for us as we step into these challenges and support companies on this journey.
